Pulpit blast for cardinal
THE associate pastor of an influential Washington Catholic parish has received a standing ovation after calling from the pulpit for Boston's Cardinal Bernard Law, left, to resign because of his handling of a paedophile priests scandal.
"Cardinal Law is not above the law," Father Percival D'Silva told the faithful celebrating Mass at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament on Sunday.
"He should have the commonsense and even the guts to say, 'I resign'."
A Washington Archdiocese spokeswoman said anything Father D'Silva said would reflect his personal view.
Concern has grown among laity and clergy after the Boston archdiocese reassigned priests from one parish to another even after Church authorities learnt that they had molested children. -- WASHINGTON POST
