• Sobbing Hanson under watch in jail hospital. BRISBANE, Australia: A distressed Pauline Hanson was placed under 24-hour observation in the hospital of Brisbane Women's Prison last night as she broke down, shaking uncontrollably. She was being closely monitored and had been given medication to calm her down as the reality of her three-year sentence for fraud struck home. Hanson's lawyers yesterday lodged an appeal on 10 grounds against her conviction. They will argue that Chief District Court Judge Patsy Wolfe refused to permanently stay the trial when Hanson's former ally David Oldfield [now an MP] was not called as a witness in the prosecution case. Former One Nation director David Ettridge who was convicted alongside Hanson had not appealed by the close of the registry yesterday but he has until September 22. Ettridge, also jailed for three years, represented himself at the trial. Hanson was taken from the watchhouse to the jail at Wacol in Brisbane's southwest around 10am yesterday and was placed in a holding area near reception. A prisoner who was in the holding area with Hanson said the former One Nation leader was sobbing. • Former model starts support group for Pauline Hanson. WELLINGTON (New Zealand): A high profile former British model and actress has started a support group for jailed controversial Australian politician Pauline Hanson. However, Paula Hamilton, who lives in Christchurch, said today she was not interested in Hanson's politics or her political party. Hanson, leader of the far right One Nation Party, was jailed for three years earlier this week for electoral fraud for claiming 500 supporters were bona fide party members. Hamilton, who has been in New Zealand for treatment for her alcoholism, said Hanson was convicted on a clerical error. -- The New Zealand Herald, www.nzherald.co.nz 11.03 am Aug 22 03
• "Hanson a political prisoner: Bishop." AUSTRALIA: Pauline Hanson was a political prisoner and it was "outrageous" she had been jailed for three years, federal Liberal backbencher Bronwyn Bishop said today. Hanson, the former One Nation leader, was sentenced last week to three years in jail for electoral fraud. "It's gone beyond just political argy-bargy of political opponents," Ms Bishop told Channel Seven today. -- The Sunday Times online, from the News.com.au network, www.sundaytimes.news.com.au , Aug 25 03
Papers on internet say Dr Kelly's name released by meeting chaired by Mr Blair. LONDON: Tony Blair [British Prime Minister] chaired a meeting at which it was decided to release the name of Dr David Kelly as the source for the BBC's story that the government "sexed up" its dossier on weapons of mass destruction to justify the war in Iraq, it emerged yesterday.  . . . hundreds of documents released by the Hutton inquiry into the death of the government scientist,  . . . An aide-memoire by John Scarlett, chairman of the joint intelligence committee (JIC), shows that the prime minister chaired five meetings on July 7 and 8 at which the strategy of leaking Dr Kelly's name to the media was agreed.  ... The documents make no more pleasing reading for the BBC than they do for the government.  . . . Richard Sambrook, the BBC's head of news, ... was aware that Mr Gilligan had briefed Richard Ottoway, a Conservative member of the foreign affairs committee. -- Glasgow Herald, Scotland, "Key sessions revealed in Hutton document," www.theherald.co.uk , by Catherine Macleod and Damien Henderson, August 25 03

• PM backs Abbott over slush fund. CANBERRA, Australia: Prime Minister John Howard has defended Minister Tony Abbott's fundraising to challenge One Nation's party registration, saying it was perfectly legal and everyone should calm down. . . . Mr Abbott created the fund -- Australians for Honest Politics -- five years ago. The trustees were the former NSW Liberal leader Peter Coleman and former WA Labor senator John Wheeldon. In 2000 Mr Abbott was confronted with evidence that he had offered money to a Pauline Hanson's One Nation dissident Mr Terry Sharples, but he had denied it to the ABC. Last night he told ABC TV's 7.30 Report he had promised Mr Sharples would not be out of pocket, but that was not the same as offering him money. The $100,000 fighting fund had nothing to do with the Liberal Party. -- The West Australian, "PM backs Abbott over slush fund," by Karen Middleton, p 4, Thu Aug 28 03
• Target One Nation. AUSTRALIA: Various anti-ON actions by Tony Abbott etc. are listed from June 19 1998 to Aug 26 2003, with pictures of Mr Abbott, Mr Coleman and Mr Wheeldon. -- The West Australian, p 4, Thu Aug 28 03
• Leaders deny fund knowledge. PERTH, Western Australia: WA Liberal and National Party leaders yesterday denied knowledge of the anti-One Nation fighting fund. Senator David Johnston, Richard Court, Colin Barnett, Hendy Cowan and Max Trenorden were all quoted. -- The West Australian, p 4, Thu Aug 28 03
• Clough confirms donation to One Nation fund. PERTH, Western Australia: Perth businessman Harold Clough today confirmed he had donated money to a fund set up by Tony Abbott to fight One Nation in court. But the 75-year-old head of Clough Engineering said he would not have given the money to Australians for Honest Politics, set up in 1998, had he known One Nation founder Pauline Hanson would be jailed for three years. Mr Clough told ABC Radio he did not seek any political favours in return for his donation, the amount of which he would not reveal. Mr Clough, who is recovering from heart surgery, described Hanson's jail term for electoral fraud as outrageous. Workplace Relations Minister Tony Abbott has admitted he organised a trust fund to underwrite legal action against One Nation. The legal fight succeeded in having One Nation deregistered in Queensland. Hanson and One Nation co-founder David Ettridge were each sentenced to three years' jail last week for electoral fraud. Mr Abbott has refused to say who donated to the fund. -- The West Australian, Online: "Clough confirms donation to One Nation fund," from AAP, www.thewest.com.au ; Aug 28 03
• Clough named in One Nation Plot. PERTH: Businessmen in WA, including building magnate Harold Clough, contributed to a slush-fund formed by Federal Workplace Relations Minister Tony Abbott to topple One Nation, a One Nation dissident says. Former Queensland One Nation candidate [Mr] Terry Sharples said on radio yesterday the businessmen were keen to see the demise of party leader Pauline Hanson. Mr Sharples was a key figure behind the court action that led to Hanson and One Nation co-founder David Ettridge being jailed for electoral fraud. The West Australian contacted Mr Clough's office for a response but was told he was unavailable. Mr Sharples said Mr Abbott had approached him in a bid to dig up dirt on One Nation. He said Mr Abbott was after One Nation "like hounds after a fox" and offered political favours in return for donations. Mr Abbott denied the claim. Mr Sharples said: "He was certainly acting in tandem in terms of a much greater group of people behind the scenes. "(Political activist) John Samuels [sic] told me since that . . . there was this group of clandestine businessmen in WA who he reckons runs the country. "The real lobby groups in this country are the people who channel these funds and I suspect they do it for both the major parties. "They have done it in this case through Tony Abbott. "Here you've got slush-fund money coming out of WA to interfere in Queensland politics. "On another occasion when I was talking to Tony Abbott, he also mentioned Harold Clough." Mr Abbott said: "I never make promises to secure funding from business people." One Nation national director Frank Hough vowed to pursue and name those who donated to the fund. He said he had received a call 18 months ago from a Sydney party member warning him of a group of WA businessmen pooling money for the fund. The member told him the fund was to be used to keep One Nation in the courts and out of Parliament. Mr Hough, who is also a WA Legislative Councillor, said he had brushed off the suggestion at the time as just another conspiracy theory against the party. But he would now pursue a couple of WA businessmen he suspected to be involved and would name them when he had more evidence. -- The West Australian, Newspaper: "Clough named in One Nation Plot," by Jerry Pratley and Steve Butler, page 4, Thu Aug 28 03
[COMMENT: Reminds some Perth people of the funds outlaid to bring down the then leadership and decentralisation policies of the WA Division of the Australian Democrats. Mr John Samuel (no terminal "s") was involved as an AD "reformer." Periodically he threatened to sue various people, and even threatened the National body! When One Nation was formed, he joined it, and then promptly sued the Party, saying he had been misled. (Possibly all who joined had been!) COMMENT ENDS.] Aug 28 03
• Ex-official Mike Kaiser let off, seeking ALP preferment -- and, two out of three One Nation ex-leaders gaoled. BRISBANE (Queensland), Australia: Two things have happened in Queensland in the last month -- Pauline Hanson has been sent to jail for three years together with David Ettridge; and Mike Kaiser, former State Secretary of the ALP [Australian Labor Party], who was found guilty of falsely registering votes, and was 'set aside' by his party, is now seeking office within the ALP at national level. It was decided that Kaiser should not face prosecution for his actions at the time.  . . . It is government legislation which has produced the double standards on which the courts are required to rule.  . . . There was no intention by Pauline Hanson to deceive electors -- and that is the only thing that counts. Most of the legislative hoops that candidates have to jump through have been fashioned into a gauntlet to frustrate genuine choice among voters, and to ensure the safety of 'big bloc' government.  . . . If the whole can-of-worms surrounding vote-fraud, big donations to parties, the improper use of tax-money at election time, perks for politicians, etc., was opened up, Pauline would emerge as one of the cleanest. Her finance was a genuine contribution from tens of thousands of battling Australians, rather than the favour-buying of vested interests. -- On Target, Melbourne, "Double standards on Pauline Hanson," by Jeremy Lee, p 1, Aug 29 03
• Landowners don't want to pay land tax on unearned income. PERTH, Western Australia: The Property Council of Australia and private property group Mair & Co have launched an assault on property taxes in WA. The action has been prompted by what the council refers to as the State Government's inaction on what is a vital issue for business. The council has developed a postcard it plans to send to politicians and property professionals with details of increases to the tax and how it affects WA business. Property Council of Australia (WA) executive director Joe Lenzo said the council had decided to be more aggressive in its approach in relation to both land tax and the new emergency services levy. "We have decided to be a bit more proactive with the Government because nothing of real substance has come out of our discussions," Mr Lenzo said. The Property Council ran a similar campaign in Victoria which was quite successful in raising the profile of land tax in that State. While the council is sending out postcards to get its message across, Mair & Co chairman John Mair is urging supporters to join him in a revolt against land tax. Mr Mair said the land tax on the Mair & Co property in Perth had increased 60 per cent in a five-year period. "As compared to CPI [Consumer Price Index] which has gone up by about 13.9 per cent, anyone who agrees with increases like that must be stark raving mad," Mr Mair said. "And the Valuer-General has been instructed to make sure that all the valuations are absolutely up to date, giving the Government a further windfall." He said the impact of land tax on commercial property in WA was quite alarming and undermined business productivity. "You can see how the Government is just milking the land-tax now," Mr Mair said. He said tenants in commercial buildings ended up bearing the burden of these tax increases which, at the end of the day, came off the bottom line. "The other big area is self-funded retirees who have bought rental properties, they are seeing their net rent decrease because of the increases in land tax," Mr Mair said. He has vowed to turn land tax into an election issue through an advertising and public awareness campaign focused on the impact of increases to land tax on families and businesses. -- The West Australian, "Vow to take on land tax," by Catie Low, Sep 3 03, p 63
[FOOTNOTE: Late in the same month landholding interests got another newsitem published in the same newspaper, to the effect that the State Government was addicted to land tax. Readers of business and property pages know that well-sited land is bringing huge windfall profits to a certain segment of society. Some but not all of these windfall winners know how to avoid paying income tax, legally, so land tax really makes them pay at least some of the costs of police, health, education, transport infrastructure and defence. The arguments above about the harm to tenants and retirees are almost valueless. To complain that the valuations are kept up to date is breathtaking in its audacity! -- Just World Campaign, 24 Sep 03. FOOTNOTE ENDS.] Sep 3 03
• High Noon for embattled Hoon. LONDON: Geoff Hoon was dealt a devastating blow when his closest adviser disclosed that the Defence Secretary had failed to tell the Hutton inquiry about his role in the public exposure of David Kelly. • K + K = 5 percent, or Henry Kissinger to the rescue of Mikhail Khodorkovsky. MOSCOW: You can always tell when an American politician is well and truly washed up, a has-been. He comes to Russia to meet the tsar so that he can go back to Washington and get the Marine salute at the White House before he divulges the very latest on what the big, bad Russian had to say.
... Besides, Putin is just a little curious himself to see how badly the U.S. government wants to save the necks and fortunes of New Russians like Mikhail Khodorkovsky. Never before has an American of Kissinger's rank wiped his shoes on the Kremlin doormat as the paid agent of a Russian businessman. So Putin can afford himself the pleasure of observing how the legendary warmaker in Vietnam and peacemaker in the Middle East – maybe I've got the war and peace back-to-front – lays out the pitch for Khodorkovsky, Kissinger's current paymaster.
... What Khodorkovsky needs Kissinger for right now is plain enough. He wants to know what the Bush Administration is prepared to do if Khodorkovsky agrees to sell, merge or swap his and Platon Lebedev's shares in Yukos with an American oil company. That the prospect of such a deal led to the arrest in July of Lebedev, Khodorkovsky's partner and co-shareholder, is already evidence of the Kremlin's hostility. It is also evidence of Putin's relative weakness and his lack of any other means to control his country's capital.
... But what is Khodorkovsky paying Kissinger for, if not to lobby for him at the White House? If Bush Jr. can persuade Putin to receive Kissinger, then Kissinger may fancy he can do double duty – to persuade Bush that it's good U.S. policy to endorse the takeover of Yukos when he and Putin meet later this month and to persuade Putin that it would be good Russian policy for him to lay off Khodorkovsky if and when the sell-out takes place. From Kissinger's point of view, if he could pull off both assurances – or at least persuade each president of the other's readiness to oblige for the time being – he could even demonstrate that, in contrast to Nixon's expensive but fruitless visits, his trip to Moscow will have earned him two of his retainers. The U.S. oil company might even offer him the standard dealmaker's 5 percent, if Kissinger can claim to have pushed both presidents into accepting the deal, and five percent of several billion dollars is a clean-up, not a wash-up.   ... -- The Russia Journal, http://www.russiajournal.com/news/cnews-article.shtml?nd=40394 By John Helmer, September 11, 2003 Posted: 14:57 Moscow time (10:57 GMT)
• Robert Fisk on Wesley Clark & Iraq: "What is Happening Is An Absolute Slaughter Every Night of Iraqi People" UNITED STATES: As the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq approaches 300, we go to Baghdad to hear from London Independent reporter Robert Fisk on the virtually unreported number of Iraqis killed in feuds, looting, revenge killings and raids by U.S. troops. [Includes transcript] The number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq stands close to 300. While figures of U.S. troops killed or wounded in Iraq are widely disclosed, the number of Iraqis killed or wounded are unknown. In an article last Sunday, Robert Fisk of the London Independent writes: "In Iraq there are thousands of incidents of violence that never get reported; attacks on Americans that cost civilian lives are not even recorded by the occupation authority press officers unless they involve loss of life among 'coalition forces'. Go to the mortuaries of Iraq's cities and it's clear that a slaughter occurs each night. Occupation powers insist that journalists obtain clearance to visit hospitals -- it can take a week to get the right papers, if at all, so goodbye to statistics -- but the figures coming from senior doctors tell their own story."  . . . "In Baghdad, up to 70 corpses -- of Iraqis killed by gunfire -- are brought to the mortuaries each day. In Najaf, for example, the cemetery authorities record the arrival of the bodies of up to 20 victims of violence a day. Some of the dead were killed in family feuds, in looting, or revenge killings. Others have been gunned down by US troops at checkpoints or in the increasingly vicious 'raids' carried out by American forces in the suburbs of Baghdad and the Sunni cities to the north."  . . .   [Picture] What Price Israel?
   First published 1953
Fifty years have come and gone since the first publication of What Price Israel? in 1953. I was 39 then, and now I am 89. The long sad story over this half-century has been one of conflict, aggression, terror, war, occupation, resistance, and so-called peace processes guaranteed to fail over and over again. I have seen it all–and yet I have hoped that somehow I would live long enough to finally see a just peace and true independence for the Palestinian Arab people.
Zionism has often been innocently defined as a movement to provide a homeland and refuge for Jews in need of safety in the land where their ancestors lived in ancient times. That definition only sounds good until we realize that almost a million Palestinian Arabs already living there had to be displaced and made homeless in the process. Incredibly, even today so many years later, many Americans and others worldwide still believe that it was “a land without a people for a people without a land.” It was not!
Any real chance for Middle East peace–as well as defusing the reasons behind our present American-led “war on terror”–must be based on fact and not on intentional or unintentional distortions of past events. As British historian, F.W. Maitland, once wrote: “We study the day before yesterday in order that yesterday may not paralyze today, and that today may not paralyze tomorrow.” The early history of the problem is therefore important. What really happened does matter. The true story, rather than slanted Zionist propaganda, about why a Palestinian Arab state did not come into existence at the same time as Israel can be found in the original text of What Price Israel? which has remained unchanged here in this 50th anniversary edition except for a few minor alterations in punctuation, spelling, and phrasing.
I do not know if I am the last, but surely I am one of the last living individuals who was at Lake Success, in the state of New York, on November 29, 1947 when the United Nations voted to partition Palestine into Arab and Jewish states. Prior to the passage of the Partition Resolution in 1947, I spoke to the representatives of every one of the fifty-seven (then) member states of the United Nations in behalf of the anti-Zionist organization, the American Council for Judaism.
In fact, I lobbied against the Partition Resolution 181 because it was our belief that the creation of a “Jewish only” Zionist enclave in that region could lead to insecurity and war which would endanger the lives of Arabs and Jews alike. Finally, as patriotic Americans, we believed this did not serve the long-term interests of the United States. A state based upon religious or racial exclusivity could, I argued, result in what actually has happened these last fifty-six years: misery for all peoples in the area and American involvement in the on-going conflict in ways that has undermined our own democratic principles and national security. We foresaw that the price of Israel would indeed be high.
As an eyewitness to those past events, it is remarkable to me that the same kind of bribes and threats were being used to browbeat the United Nations delegations to vote for partition as have recently been shamelessly used to try to force U.N. members to support the American-Israeli war on Iraq.
What does Iraq have to do with Israel? Or rather, what does Israel have to do with American-led plans for so-called “pre-emptive” aggression against Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and other Arab and Muslim nations? I know that some of my colleagues for justice for the Palestinians would like to believe that American imperialism controls Israel rather than that Israel controls American foreign policy in the Middle East through the network of ultra-Zionist sympathizers within the U.S. who place their concerns for Israel above their concerns for America itself. Without the State of Israel having come into existence in 1948–there would be no need for a war on terror. Other conflicts would be going on around the world, including in the Mideast region, since human nature seems to have such a talent for strife. But this particular “clash of civilizations” between the West and Islam is primarily a tragic outcome of U.S. support for Israel.
To understand why reportedly many Arabs wanted to “drive the Jews back into the sea,” we have to be aware of exactly why Zionism was seen by both Christian and Muslim Arabs as a grave danger to their home territories far beyond the narrow area in Palestine that most Western nations believed to be the only goal of conquest for the new Jewish state. It has never been the mere existence of Israel since its inception on May 14, 1948 that has been the major underlying cause of the region’s over half-century of deadly turmoil. Rather, the true obstacle to a peaceful solution is the abnormal nature of Israel’s statehood. It is a nation without a Constitution, a fact unknown to most Americans, and a state without officially declared borders. It is the kind of state that Israel has become which goes to the heart-core of the problem and has blocked progress toward peace in the region.
Under the Zionist concept of a Jewish state with worldwide nationalism, Jewish Israelis are first-class citizens and non-Jews–the Palestinians and others–can only be second-class citizens. And holding themselves out as the Jewish state only further encourages Middle East and South Asian countries to identify and conduct themselves as Muslim states with consequent prejudices and discrimination against their non-Muslim citizens and residents. Far from being a noble example to the rest of the Middle East and beyond of a modern democracy, Israel has become a polarizing factor based on Zionist notions of purported racial and religious Jewishness as its foundation.
No significant progress has yet been made toward bringing the Israelis and Palestinians to a lasting settlement, based on justice for both peoples, precisely because of the peculiar nature of nationality as defined in Israel that views all Jews everywhere as birthright Israelis. An Israeli state, propagating normal nationalism confined to its own borders, would by now constitute little or no threat to the Palestinians, and would no longer provide an ongoing provocation to Arabs throughout the region. On the other hand, a Jewish state, propagating an abnormal Jewish nationalism extending anywhere on the globe wherever Jews may dwell, must always be viewed as a threat both to Arabs as well as to all who identify themselves as Jews, even those of us who have long opposed being claimed by Israel as its potential citizens.
I cannot help but feel that it is ever more urgent to answer the concerns of many Americans preoccupied with Mideast terrorism, which is referred to constantly in our U.S. media as a characteristic of Palestinian crimes only, while vicious Israeli crimes against Palestinians are dismissed as self-defense measures. In actuality, neither side–Israelis nor Palestinians–has come into court of world opinion with clean hands. If the Palestinians have been guilty of terrorism, and they have, let us not forget who first introduced this disease into the region. It was the likes of Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Shamir, and Ariel Sharon, who later became Prime Ministers of Israel, and yet all had a long list of atrocities to answer to of their own.
It was in 1953, the same year that What Price Israel? was first published, that a young Sharon was the commander of killer Unit 101 that brutally massacred defenseless Arab civilians in the Palestinian village of Qibyah. Perhaps we cannot expect the less than scholarly George W. Bush to know about this lifelong criminal history of his Israeli “Man of Peace,” but many of Bush’s experienced advisors do indeed know they are dealing with a perpetrator of many inexcusable war crimes. Why then do these informed men and women go along with providing Israel with unbounded military, financial, and moral support when doing so is contrary to our own national interest and security? Tragically, when it comes to the Middle East, the old saying, “The more things change, the more they remain the same,” still reigns supreme. The same old lies and chicanery on the part of fanatical Zionists are going on now in the Bush administration just as they were in the Truman administration.
In the Summer of 2003, we have seen great shock and sorrow expressed about very angry and seemingly “anti-Semitic” remarks in a 1947 diary of then President Harry Truman that had remained dust-covered and unread for over half a century until the Truman Library found it and released it to the public. In a July 21, 2003 article, “Truman did it to save his own skin,” in the Jewish World Review, Sidney Zion laments with considerable rage that now the truth is out, and it shows that White House aide Clark Clifford told Truman he would lose the 1948 election unless he immediately recognized the Jewish state. Why the huge surprise that Truman’s much acclaimed love and concern for the Jews has turned out to be a bitterly disappointing fable! The American champion of the founding of Israel made his pro-Zionist decisions far less due to his Bible upbringing or humanitarian motives than because of his political concerns to have both the Jewish vote and campaign money from wealthy Jews. Readers of the original What Price Israel? have known this for 30 or 40 or 50 years since they first read it. The truth was known then but was denied and covered up to make the existence of the new “Jewish state” appear to be the outcome of both a religious and humanitarian miracle.
Several months after Roosevelt's death and Truman's succession to the presidency, a Reuters news service headline in December 1945 had declared: “Truman Clarifies Palestine Stand: Not in Favor of a ‘Judaic’ State.” The article went on to detail Truman's outlook at the time, “As a true American, he did not feel that any Government should be based on religious or racial grounds, and he was therefore opposed to the creation of a ‘Judaic’ State in Palestine. For the same reason, he would oppose one based on the Moslem religion or a Baptist denomination. The Palestine Government, he felt, should be the Government of the people of Palestine, irrespective of race, creed or color.” The article goes on to describe the position of the American Council for Judaism as presented in person by Lessing Rosenwald to Truman–and Truman’s stated view was virtually identical to our own as anti-Zionist Jews! So, what happened to change Truman's mind so dramatically?
The names in Truman's time of Zionist American Jews who pressured, manipulated, or paid for the promotion of Israel include David Niles, Judge Sam Rosenman, Max Lowenthal, Abraham Feinberg, Eddie Jacobson, and A.J. Grandin. Secular or Christian Zionists close to Truman, such as Clark Clifford and Matthew Connelly, clearly made their decisions based on vote counting and campaign financing. Although What Price Israel? in 1953 dealt with many of these individuals, plus Silver, Wise, and others–there are resources today that were not available to me then or even later in 1978 and 1983. That is when I wrote the almost 1,000-page history, and its update, of the “special relationship”–facilitated by many influential American Jewish individuals and organizations–between Israel and the United States government: The Zionist Connection I & II.
The curse of our time is the proliferation of so-called “think tanks” that advise our public leaders. Their influence has increased tremendously during recent years. What many of these wretched groups actually are is on the other hand becoming increasingly revealed. Even our greatly controlled media pundits are becoming alarmed at the world chaos being created by the neo-conservatives who have so heavily influenced Bush's perpetual war on terror. Ironically many of the founders of this neo-conservative dynasty were at one time the same Trotskyists and other Marxists that I personally opposed back in the 1930s. At the 1936 World Youth Congress, I led the walkout against these Communist elements. How ironic to see these same shady characters later reinvent themselves dramatically into a new brand of conservatives and gain considerable influence during the Reagan presidency. They may have changed their name and hijacked true conservatism, but their agenda is the same as when the elders among them were Marxists. Control is the name of their game no matter what side they are playing on. Unfortunately many of these “neo-cons” are Jewish, and from this fact has indeed derived an outburst of suspicion and resentment toward Jews in general that could lead to very damaging anti-Semitism that would not otherwise exist.
However, I would like to stress to any Americans–who may be outraged by the conduct of the Kristols, Perle, Wolfowitz, Abrams, Feith, and other extremist neo-con Zionists–that many of the rest of us Jews are not guilty of their offenses. All Jews are not Zionists, and all Zionists are not Jews. Starting with Bush, Cheney, and Ashcroft–plus many in Congress such as Tom DeLay–we have a long list of Christian Zionists presently running our country, who may envision an eventual Middle East catastrophe based on an interpretation of prophesy that Jews must move in mass to Israel so that Armageddon can occur and Christ return. The catch is that all those millions of Jews are to either be converted or slaughtered in this coming bloodbath. Just as the neo-conservatives have hijacked true conservatism, the Christian Zionists have distorted the teachings of Christian evangelicalism to create their own guaranteed self-fulfilling prophesy leading to an earthly hell and unspeakable destruction–which would constitute the true final Holocaust of the Jews as a people and a religion!
Sincere American Christians who presently believe this deadly doctrine are not at fault; they have been taken in by a unique re-interpretation of scripture that goes back to the Scofield Reference Bible of 1909 that was influenced and funded by Zionists. Former White House speech-writer and author, Grace Halsell–who investigated this “Dispensationalist” doctrine promulgated by Hal Lindsey, Jerry Falwell, Billy and Franklin Graham, and others–has revealed the history and impact of this dangerous movement in her book Forcing God’s Hand: Why Millions Pray for a Quick Rapture–And Destruction of Planet Earth.
It is Washington that will be the principal ideological battleground where the crucial showdown will take place over whether there will or will not be a successful “Road Map” leading to the establishment of a Palestinian state to exist and flourish side by side with the existing state of Israel. If a real and lasting solution is to evolve, the voice of positive opposition in the United States–both Jews and Christians–as well as Arab Americans–along with secular groups right and left and in between–must be molded into a unified political force. The Zionist lobby, the many spineless politicians, and the biased media have to date had the final and decisive say as to the possibility of Middle East peace. They can similarly block any current or future peace plan as they have so successfully done other peace efforts in the past–the list would be a long one! Change will not be easy against such entrenched forces, but it is up to the increasing number of supporters of peace with justice to move forward with courage and determination.

• One Nation split may mean the end. AUSTRALIA: The One Nation party is on the verge of being deregistered.
Bitter internal brawls mean it is unlikely to get the eight national executive members the party needs for a quorum at a meeting in Adelaide next month.
Without them, national secretary Ed Wall said he would have little choice but to deregister the party.
It would mean the party could not go to the Federal election under the banner of any name resembling One Nation or Pauline Hanson.
"At the end of the day, people need to realise that we have to end our differences and run as a party or there won't be a party," Mr Wall said.
The Australian Electoral Commission yesterday confirmed Mr Wall is the national secretary. It found a national conference in March which purported to overthrow him was convened illegally.
A spokeswoman said the conference was not held in accordance with the party's constitution and so the office bearers would not be changed.
But Queensland-based Rod Evans, who claims he was elected national president at the conference, has threatened legal action to block attempts to deregister the party.
"The members call the shots, not the AEC," he said yesterday.
The party was bigger than the commission and would ignore its ruling.
"We don't need the AEC to tell us whether our conference has been held legitimately or not because this is a party based on the members," Mr Evans said.
Acting One Nation president and WA MLC John Fischer, who took the position when Pauline Hanson resigned early last year, said he would call the party's first valid national executive meeting for 17 months this week.
But Mr Wall said the constant infighting made the party's operations untenable. He had thought for some time that deregistration might be the only option.
The commission spokeswoman said State branches would fold automatically. -- The West Australian, "Bitter internal brawls mean end is nigh for One Nation," by Steve Butler, p 1, September 23, 2003
[COMMENT: If the members run the party, as Mr Wall says, the question is, when did that begin? Under Pauline Hanson for some time she and the two Davids had all the say. The central executive took ridiculous actions like expelling the whole Peel branch (based on Mandurah, WA). The constant infighting has, in our opinion, been assisted by funds supplied by Big Business as previously reported when Mr Terry Sharples and Mr John Samuel (a professional himself in these affairs) talked to the mass media. Unless ordinary members can see the TENDENCY of some fellow-members, they will continue to be deceived by them. The AEC comment is not helpful about State branches; they will not close automatically, because in at least two States (Queensland and Western Australia) there are O.N. members in State Parliament, and there is an O.N. Senator in the Federal Parliament. COMMENT ENDS.] Sep 23 03
• Europe hits back at illegal US trade law. BRUSSELS: Europe's trading relationship with the United States deteriorated further last night when the European commission said it had no option but to impose tit-for-tat sanctions in a rumbling row over an illegal US trade law.
In an unusually acerbic outburst Brussels said it had lost patience with Washington over the issue and called the apparent flouting of international trade law "very disturbing."
The offending US law - the anti-dumping act of 1916 - allows the US to punish foreign firms it deems guilty of flooding the market with cheap imports.
Under the law, ruled illegal by the World Trade Organisation in 2000, the US can hit foreign firms with fines equivalent to three times the damages sustained and can even jail executives.
Brussels said yesterday it had given the US ample time to scrap the law but saw no signs of compliance. "The EU considers retaliatory measures a last resort and has given the US more than enough time to comply with the WTO decision in this dispute," said Pascal Lamy, the EU's trade commissioner.
"[The] time has come for the US to show diligence and commitment to its WTO obligations. The sign that international trade law will simply be ignored is very disturbing and cannot go unchallenged."
Mr Lamy said at least three European firms had run into trouble with the US law. He said the EU would be asking the WTO for permission to impose sanctions on US firms guilty of flooding the EU with cheap imports in retaliation.
Such firms should, he said, face import duties equivalent to three times the amount of damages which EU firms have sustained under the US law.
He said that the EU would take steps to protect its own firms in the meantime, allowing European firms to countersue any US entity which invokes the offending US law.
Disagreements over steel tariffs, US tax breaks for multinationals, and the US practice of feeding cattle growth hormones continue to sour the transatlantic relationship. -- The Guardian, Britain, "Europe hits back at illegal US trade law," www.guardian.co.uk , Andrew Osborn in Brussels, Tuesday September 23, 2003
• Land Tax Myths.
AUSTRALIA: Memo to West Australian taxpayers: Mair ∧ Co and the Property Council of Australia are trying to rip you off-- using the time-honoured method of peddling myths ("Vow to take on land tax", September 3, p.63).
MYTH: Land tax undermines business productivity.
FACT: My land tax liability depends solely on the value of land that I own. It does not depend on my productivity and therefore cannot influence my productivity -- except perhaps by forcing me to be MORE productive in order to pay the tax.
MYTH: Land tax is a burden on tenants.
FACT: By making it uneconomic to own vacant premises, land tax forces landlords to seek tenants. One attracts tenants by REDUCING rents, not increasing them! One might also be forced to build or renovate, thus increasing the supply of accommodation and further reducing rents.
MYTH: Land tax causes a decline in after-tax rents received by self-funded retirees.
FACT: This only happens when the growth in property values is outstripping the growth in rents -- in other words, when the property market is in a speculative bubble. Higher land tax rates would make speculation uneconomic and prevent such bubbles from occurring in the first place.
Property owners' associations do not exist for the benefit of businesses, tenants or self-funded retirees. They exist for the benefit of landlords, and their most consistent and cherished goal is that landlords should pay less tax. And if they pay less, you pay more. -- Gavin R. Putland, letter SENT TO The West Australian on Sep 25 03
• WTO arrogance fuels global hatred and terrorism. PERTH, W. Australia: The World Trade Organisation is ignorance on a grand scale masquerading as knowledge. Such ignorant arrogance is pernicious and dangerous because it promotes a two-tier world system and fuels global hatred and terroristm. All nations have the right and freedom to determine their own destiny and disagree with those that dominate the WTO -- like America and Europe. People power is global as we have seen in the past WTO round of talks. We are all part of the global village and have a say in the future. -- The West Australian, "We disagree" in "Opinion" letters pages, from Mary Jenkins, Spearwood, p 20, Sep 26 03
Bank debt creation makes economic strain.
Numurkah Leader (northern Victoria, Australia) leader2@mcmedia.com.au" (refer http://au.think-of. com/Detailed/ 14317.html ) , "Open letter to Dr Sharman Stone," Advertisement by Jeff Davy, Katunga (Victoria, Australia), p 8, Wednesday, September 29, 2004
VICTORIA, Australia: WHAT is the current rural debt? What is the current foreign debt? And where does money come from? Those were the three questions I asked you and the other candidates at the recent meet the candidates meeting organised in Numurkah by the VFF [Victorian Farmers' Federatoion].
The first question no one answered, the second question Diane Teasdale and Rob Bryant answered.
You made a statement that the government had paid off some foreign debt saving taxpayers $5 billion a year in interest re-payments.
Which in fact comes out of the pockets of hard working Australian men and women trying to support families.
The third question you didn't answer, nor did Norm Kelly, Monica Morgan and Janine Maddill, however, Monica Morgan did say that if I had that information she would be prepared to listen. Rob Bryant and Diane Teasdale did answer the last question.
During the great depression, with untold suffering and hardship in the western world, which saw runs on banks, massive unemployment, civil unrest, long queues to places of employment and soup kitchens.
The Scullin Government abandoned the gold standard on December 17, 1929.
Then with the worsening international economic depression, Britain was forced to abandon the gold standard on September 21, 1931.
America abandoned it on April 19, 1933.
The gold standard was abandoned for one reason, there wasn't enough money in the economy to run the economy.
Enter one bright economist - John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946). Keynes was born at Cambridge, educated at Eton College and the University of Cambridge.
He wrote such books as Indian currency and finance 1913, The Economic Consequences of the Peace 1919, Treatise on Probability 1921, A Treatise on Money 1930 and The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money 1936.
This book provided a theoretical defence for programs that were already being tried in Great Britain and in the United States by Franklin Roosevelt. Keynes also wrote How To Pay For War 1940.
In 1942 he was made a baron, 1944 he headed the British delegation to the United Nations Monetary and Financial Conference, the Bretton Woods Conference where he promoted the establishment of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Monetary Fund.
Keynesian economics is what the Western world's governments base their economic systems upon - boom bust inflation. And that is driven by one thing.
As in Australia and in most modern economies of the world, ALL money is created as a debt of the banking system with interest bearing to the banking system. That's what Keynesian economics is, creating debt. And putting us further into debt. That is, as individuals, local government, state government, federal government.
When a bank receives deposits, it keeps 25 percent in reserves and lends 75 percent. The amount lent becomes a new deposit at another bank.
The next bank in the sequence keeps 25 percent and lends 75 percent and the process continues until the banking system has created enough deposits to eliminate its excess reserves for every $100,000 at reserves. Creates $400,000 at deposits but unfortunately it is all debt and that is why the whole Western world is going further into debt.
			Reserves	Loans	Deposit
Deposit $100,000
Reserves $25,000 Loan $75,000	25,000	75,000	100,000
Deposit $75,000
Reserves $18,750 Loan $56,250	43,750	131,250	175,000
Deposit $56,250
Reserves $14,060 Loan $42,190	57,810	173,440	231,250
Deposit $42,190
Reserves $10,550 Loan $31,640	68,360	215,630	271,440

Until it becomes 100,000	300,000	400,000
So, from $100,000 of money, $300,000 is created by banks out of nothing. That is $400,000 of debt.
That's how banks create money out of nothing. Politicians allow it through silence and inaction and bankers perpetrate it on unsuspecting public.
It is immoral, unfair, unjust and nothing more than a contrived way of obtaining people's property, business, farms or any other endeavour that they try to go into. Some businesses will survive but most will fail.
Sixty percent of small businesses fail and for politicians to stand by and watch their constituents, the people who elect them, pay them and hope that they will look after their interests and put their trust in them for them to stand back and do nothing about a sick contrived banking system only shows what politicians really are.
This is what debt finance has done to rural Australia.
   Work it out for yourself.
In 1960, Australia had 290,000 primary producers with a net rural debt of $77 million.
By 1970, there were 250,000 primary producers with net debt of $1224 million.
In 1985, the primary producers were reduced to 170,000 carrying between them a debt of over $6000 million. By 1988, farmer numbers had dropped below 150,000 while their debt had spiralled to around $8000 million and in 1990, $11 billion debt. And in 2002, $26 billion debt.
Rural Australia now pays $2 billion a year in interest and repayments. So much for golden soil and wealth for toil.
And that was before the worst drought in 100 years.
Are we as a nation under debt finance headed for economic collapse? Will John Howard pull us out of it?
   Work it out for yourself.

Australian Financial Review reported on January 27, 1998 'Foreign investment portfolio in Australia 1996/97 was $481.9 billion with a further $80 billion of privatisation projects in Australia should be strongly supported by foreign investors over the remainder of the decade.
Thanks to a lower Australian dollar and the continuing turmoil in Asia, a new report has found, 'the report by investment bank J.P.Morgan found that Australia ranked second in the world in 1997 for privatisation activity boasting projects valued at $15 billion and beaten only by Brazil'.
J.P.Morgan's figures didn't include the $14.3 billion sale of one third of Telstra by the Federal Government.
Argentina is facing a compulsory 30 percent devaluation of the peso after defaulting on its $140 billion US dollars national debt thanks to the International Monetary Fund which has eliminated the savings of most of its people. And you think that's bad.
A bank's poverty policy (The Age, November 25, 1991), "thirteen million children a year die of hunger and disease of poverty. To stand by and do nothing when the world has the resources to feed them could be a crime of genocide, Mrs Justice Elizabeth Evatt told a recent conference of the Freedom From Hunger Campaign."
The world is doing something isn't it? What about the billions of dollars of aid the West has poured into third world countries over the years? Last year alone the developed world gave the developing countries US$50 billion in aid.
It took back US$93 billion in debt repayments and unequal trade deals. While rich countries plead compassion fatigue; the world's poor last year gave US$43 billion to the world's rich.
The article further quotes Mr Kamal Malthotra, the director of overseas programs for Community Aid Abroad saying, "because the bank's major shareholder is the United States, it is accused of echoing US policies and being little more than a debt collector for American banks".
At best, World Bank and [the] International Monetary Fund would have to be seen as something to be very suspicious of if it was set up to alleviate world poverty when in fact it causes it.
What's that got to do with Australia? In the words of Ernest Roedeck AM, Paper Australia in a changing world, "if we continue to import more than we export, we will become poverty stricken and beholden to our creditors.
Then the international monetary fund will come in and run the economy in the interest of our creditors and not in that of the Australian people."
Access Economics was tipping the politically sensitive foreign debt will rise from $330 billion to $474 billion in one financial year ending 2001/02. Our children will inherit a debt of $24,000 per capita.
The current foreign debt for 2003 is $597 billion, now a debt of 30,000 per capita.
But debt finance doesn't affect you! You just go right back to sleep while our politicians sell our country out to international bankers.
Not so, say the politicians. Well, who holds the mortgage on the foreign debt? International bankers can even manipulate how much foreign debt a country has by manipulating its currency up or down.
Are we in trouble? Work it out for yourself.
Australia's foreign debt in 1982 was $39 billion, in 2002 it was $330 billion and 2003, $597 billion.
But some people still think that debt doesn't affect them.
This is a question that every Australian should ask of his or her representative or make the statement "no sovereign government representing a sovereign people should have a government debt".
For the smug self-centred people who think that Keynesian debt financial system won't affect them. I'm sorry, it's already affecting you and it affects you through higher local government rates and levies, higher state government taxes and levies, and higher federal government taxes, levies, rates and under Keynesian debt finance governments will always have to raise taxation for local, state and federal government to pay for services, water, roads, hospitals, aged care, public transport.
Look at what we've lost in Numurkah and district over the last 25 years. Court house, State Rivers and Water Supply depot and office, trains system to Melbourne, Lands Department, state electricity system office and depot, Grain Elevators Board depot, State Bank, and last but not least, Numurkah Shire Council - all of these were driven out by the one thing, Keynesian debt finance.
We have to become more efficient.
We've just become the highest taxed group of Australians in Australia's history with a $4.6 billion budget surplus.
The average Australian worker now pays $6500 a year in indirect levies and taxes or works 96 days a year to pay tax. 99.9% of the population doesn't know where money comes from.
They either don't know or don't care or are just plain too stupid to understand. Which one are you?
In my next letter I will explain the principles of Douglas social credit, Clifford H Douglas (1879 - 1952).
Born in England, Douglas was a civil engineer, a man versed in mathematics and mathematical formulae.
He was the first person to see the flaw in the money system that Keynes was promoting and he did a world lecture tour at that time.
He toured England, Canada, America, Australia and New Zealand. He came to Australia in 1936 and he warned back then that under Keynes debt finance "that at some time into the future under ever increasing taxation, ever increasing government debt, ever increasing personal debt, ever increasing cost of production, that maybe 60, 70 or 80 years time, not only would there be a 'debt crisis', but it was inevitable that it would get progressively worse to the point where society will slowly collapse into a state of total chaos and suffering under the extreme financial pressures".
We are seeing the start of it now through a hospital system that can't cope where doctors and nurses are pushed to the limit just to carry out everyday chores, through the record breakdown of marriages, increase in alcoholism and violence, record bankruptcies, record suicides, youth included, record homelessness, degradation of the environment and river systems.
Farmers have been pushed to use large volumes of irrigation water to increase production just to remain viable.
And who now are about to have the rug pulled out from underneath them if 1500gl of water is returned to the Murray River environmental flows? It is pointless to talk about sustainable agriculture and sustainable environments when the production system is distorted by an unsustainable banking and money system.
Sooner of later, even Dumb and Dumber will wake up to the flaw in the money system.
The Reserve Bank's own official figures once showed that there was only $15.201 billion in currency in Australia, yet there was $333.730 billion of credit collateralised to the banks.
How can you pay off $333.730 billion of debt with $15.201billion of money, I would like someone to tell me!
Perhaps we could ask the man responsible for monetary policy in Australia. The treasurer, he seems to think he knows the answers to everything, but I don't think he could answer that one.
For every $1 of credit, there is $22 of debt. How can you pay that off? Not only is it a mathematical impossibility to pay off debt, it is also a physical impossibility that is the flaw in the money system, the money con, the money trick.
Australia's money supply has increased $100 million dollars every 24 hours since the coalition government gained office. And banks make $27 million profit every 24 hours.
The banking and money system is nothing more than a corrupt, contrived, immoral, unfair and unjust way of obtaining people's property.
Sooner or later, there is going to be a lot of angry people around when they realise that they have lost their farm or their business, or their home or their family through the breakdown of their marriage but I guess that's nothing to the people who could see no way out under the crippling burden of debt but to take their lives and leave behind their families to suffer a life of guilt and not knowing why.
   1. What is the answer? Create a Commonwealth Rural Bank with long term, low interest fixed rates for all primary producers, rural business, rural councils and shires to be able to borrow money at between that of our trading competitors, Japan at zero percent, America at base rate of 1.5 percent and Britain at three percent which equals two percent, to cope with seasonal fluctuations and conditions such as drought, floods, bushfires and storm damage to crops.
   2. Have a three-year debt moratorium with no interest and no principal repayments.
If you fix the banking-money system, then all the economic, social and environmental problems will begin to fall into line.
Allow it to continue and as sure as the sun comes up in the morning, rural Australia will be headed for economic collapse.
Money is only a medium of exchange, not a commodity.
