During pope's youth visit two U.S. priests went to Canada for boy sex.
Victims claim priests still abusing

 WASHINGTON   U. S. A. flag; Mooney's Miniflags

SIX weeks after Catholic bishops in the United States adopted a new policy to discipline sexually abusive priests, advocates for victims say the policy is not being followed uniformly.
Michigan, U.S. State, flag; Mooney's Miniflags  Oklahoma, U.S. State, flag; Mooney's Miniflags  David Clohessy, executive director of the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests [S.N.A.P.], said an admitted abuser was allowed to remain in a parish in Michigan until Monday [July 29 02] and another remained at an Oklahoma parish until last weekend.
Allegations of abuse had been made against both since 1994.
Under the policy, such priests are to be removed as soon as the allegations against them are found to be credible.
His statement came the day before a lay [= non-clergy] panel that is reviewing how Catholic bishops discipline sexually abusive priests meets in Washington.
This panel was created last month at its meeting on ending the clerical abuse scandal, which has shaken the Church in the U.S. and beyond.
Frank Keating, Governor of Oklahoma and chairman of the panel, invited leaders of the Survivors Network to speak for about 30 minutes, said Mr Keating's spokesman, Dan Mahoney.
Massachusetts, U.S. State, flag; Mooney's Miniflags  The scandal erupted in January in the Boston archdiocese when Cardinal Bernard Law acknowledged allowing a paedophile priest to remain in parish work. About 300 of the 46,000 U.S. priests have been taken off duty this year because of sex abuse allegations.
Canada, flag; Mooney's Miniflags  In Montreal, two U.S. Catholic priests were charged with soliciting sex from underage boys in a Canadian prostitution ring.
New Jersey, U.S. State, flag; Mooney's Miniflags  William Giblin, 70, and Eugene Heyndricks, 60, had been suspended from parish duties in New Jersey by their archdiocese, police and Church spokesmen said.
The news came as Pope John Paul concluded his visit to Canada at an outdoor Mass before 800,000 people, during which he condemned publicly priests sexually abusing children.
[And the article continued to report the Pope's activities, speech in Spanish, and a beatification (declaring a person to be "blessed") of two people (a skull and bones of one of them was pictured) and the upcoming canonisation (declaring a person a "saint") of Juan Diego, a Mexican Indian who claimed to have seen Mary, the Virgin of Guadalupe.]
